How Vicin measures marketing performance

A useful result needs more than a number. Vicin keeps the source, time period, comparison basis, missing evidence and known limits attached to each finding. These rules explain how that record is built.

Start with the source, place, and time period
A metric begins with its source, the business or area it describes, and the period it covers. Google Analytics 4 reports website activity. Google Search Console reports organic search activity. Google Ads reports paid campaign activity. Google Business Profile reports listing actions. A result from one source does not silently become a result from another.
Compare like with like
A comparison keeps the metric, source, business, geography, and period basis consistent. Month-over-month compares adjacent periods of equal length. Year-over-year compares the same period one year apart. Neither comparison proves what caused the change, and neither repairs a missing prior period.
Measure Google Maps visibility across a grid
A local ranking grid checks the same keyword from measured points around a business. Each point records the observed rank or indicates that the business was not found in the checked range. Average rank and top-3 coverage use only measured points. Comparisons use the same grid basis because a different center, radius, spacing, keyword, or capture date changes what was measured.
Keep missing, unavailable, filtered, and zero separate
Measured zero means the check ran and found none. Unmeasured means the check did not run. Unavailable means a required source or result could not be read. Filtered means a stated rule excluded part of the record. Vicin keeps these states separate because a missing value is not a measured zero.
State when a list or sample is capped
Some providers return a limited set of rows, terms, pages, competitors, or locations. Vicin states when a list is capped and does not present the visible rows as the complete total. A total comes from the source total when one exists, not from adding a shortened display list.
Show the numerator and denominator behind a rate
A rate is interpretable only when its inputs share a valid basis. Click-through rate uses clicks divided by impressions. Conversion rate uses the configured conversion count divided by the stated traffic measure. Cost per click uses known spend divided by paid clicks. A missing or zero denominator produces no rate, not infinity or an invented percentage.
Treat before-and-after reviews as observational
An experiment record compares equal windows before and after a documented website or Google Business Profile change. The change date stays outside both windows. The result shows what moved after the change, but it does not prove the change caused the movement. Search demand, competitors, seasonality, advertising, and other activity can move during the same period.
Refuse a map baseline that did not exist
Google Maps rank reflects what was captured at a point in time. A change can use an earlier grid capture as its baseline only when that capture already existed before the change. A later capture cannot recreate the earlier state, so Vicin reports no baseline instead of estimating one.
Check whether an average moved because the sample changed
Average position can improve when low-ranked queries or map points disappear, and it can worsen when visibility expands into weaker positions. Vicin reads the average beside coverage, new and lost queries, or measured grid points. A flattering average does not become a positive finding when the underlying coverage moved the other way.
Require enough history before publishing a forecast
Trends and forecasts require at least 12 months of usable history. Vicin compares candidate forecasts with basic reference methods before publishing a result and reports the confidence earned by the available history and backtest. A forecast describes an expected range. It is not a guarantee, a revenue prediction, or proof of what will happen.
Keep source freshness and failures visible
Connected sources update on different schedules and can fail independently. Vicin keeps the last successful period, source status, and known delay attached to the affected result. One failed source does not turn its metrics into zero and does not erase results from sources that still worked.
Use market data as area context
Market records describe aggregate conditions around a location. They can provide context on income, education, housing, work patterns, and nearby businesses when supporting public data is available. Area data does not identify the business's customers, does not identify an individual, and does not establish who should receive advertising.
Describe competitors from public evidence
Competitor comparisons use publicly available businesses observed within the defined search area and result set. They can compare map visibility, ratings, review counts, review pace, and other public listing metrics. The sample is not representative of all competitors, and public-listing evidence does not reveal a competitor's traffic, sales, advertising results, or internal strategy.
Keep links, citations, and possible listings distinct
A backlink is a link from another page to the business website. A confirmed citation verifies the expected business listing. A possible listing is a lead that still needs to be checked. Vicin keeps these findings separate and states when spam or another product rule filtered a source from the results.
Use AI to organize evidence, not replace it
AI can connect related findings, explain why a change deserves attention, and present supported next questions. It does not replace missing data, alter a source measurement, or turn a possible driver into a proven cause. Calculations and evidence states keep their stated rules before AI organizes the result.
Name what a paid metric includes
Spend means the advertising cost reported for connected campaigns in the selected period. Cost per click divides that known spend by paid clicks. Cost per conversion depends on the conversion actions configured in Google Ads. Google Business Profile call button clicks are listing actions, not completed calls, and Vicin does not label them call tracking.
