LOCATION PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

Compare each location with the peers that actually belong beside it.

Vicin compares one location with eligible internal peers on measurements that have enough evidence to support the comparison. See the selected value, peer average, median or range, reporting count, and row-level result before choosing where to investigate.

Product views use fictional demo data.

QUALIFIED PEER BENCHMARKING

A location only looks like it is underperforming next to something.

A company-wide total or a loose ranking can put unlike locations beside each other. Vicin qualifies the peer group first, then checks each row for enough usable evidence.

The selected location stays beside the benchmark, the reporting count, and the comparison state. You can see what supports the result before deciding what it means.

WHY RAW RANKING MISLEADS

The smallest number isn't automatically a problem.

A low value can reflect a strong peer group, a metric where lower is better, or incomplete evidence. The benchmark needs context before the number becomes a useful question.

CONTEXT

Relative does not mean weak

A location can trail its internal peer average while still producing a strong business result. Location Comparison reports the relative gap, not an absolute grade.

DIRECTION

Bigger is not always better

Traffic and conversion measurements often favor a higher value. Average position and efficiency costs favor a lower value. Vicin reads each supported measurement in its intended direction.

EVIDENCE

Unavailable does not mean zero

A missing source or value cannot support an underperformance result. Vicin preserves the available selected value and states why the peer comparison could not run.

QUALIFIED PEER COHORT

The comparison group has to qualify before a row can qualify.

Vicin narrows the group to active internal peers with the same local and business-category context. The result is a closer operating reference than a broad company average.

  1. 01

    Same customer

Vicin starts with active locations managed by the same customer. Locations from another customer account cannot enter the peer group.

  2. 02

    Same city and state

The selected location and its peers must share the same city and state. The location fields define this part of eligibility.

  3. 03

    Same primary category

The group must share the same Google Business Profile primary category. Business Profile data is used only to qualify the primary category for this feature.

  4. 04

    At least three locations total

The selected location needs at least two eligible peers. A smaller group does not produce a location benchmark.

FIVE EVIDENCE GROUPS

Twenty supported rows cover performance, efficiency, and change.

Each row has its own source and evidence gate. One unavailable row does not erase the measurements that remain readable.

3 ROWS

Acquisition

Sessions, Conversions, and Conversions per session compare website acquisition and measured outcomes.

3 ROWS

Search visibility

Organic clicks, Organic impressions, and Average position compare the available organic search record.

5 ROWS

Paid acquisition

Ad spend, Ad clicks, Ad conversions, Cost per ad click, and Paid cost per lead action compare the available Google Ads record and Vicin's measured lead-action cost.

5 ROWS

Lead capture

Lead actions, Lead actions per 100 sessions, Offer pages reached, Action pages reached, and Confirmation reached compare measured progress through the lead path.

4 ROWS

Year-over-year

Sessions YoY, Conversions YoY, Organic clicks YoY, and Organic impressions YoY compare current movement with the prior-year basis.

Acquisition, Search visibility, Paid acquisition, and Lead capture use the selected period. Year-over-year rows compare the last completed month with the same month one year earlier.

ROW-LEVEL EVIDENCE GATES

Missing evidence stays separate from weak performance.

Vicin decides comparison availability row by row. The selected location can retain a readable value even when the peer benchmark is unavailable.

The selected row needs a usable value

The selected location needs the required source and a usable value for the measurement before Vicin can compare it.

Two peer values are enough

At least two eligible peers need usable values for the row. Other eligible peers can lack that measurement without blocking the comparison.

The row remains visible

An unavailable comparison does not make the row disappear. Vicin keeps the selected value when available and states the reason the peer result is missing.

Shared website data is excluded

Website metrics are not compared when eligible locations share the same website data. Shared measurements do not become false location differences.

THE BENCHMARK ON EACH ROW

The context adapts to the evidence that actually reported.

Eligible rows show the selected location beside an anonymous peer aggregate. The supporting context changes with the number of reporting peers.

Peer average
The arithmetic average across reporting peers is the central comparison for every eligible row.
Peer median
The median of the reporting peer values appears when at least three peers report the measurement. It shows whether an unusually high or low peer has pulled the average.
Peer range
The lowest and highest peer values appear when exactly two peers report the measurement. A median is not presented for a two-peer row.
Reporting peer count
Each eligible row states how many peer locations contributed usable values. The count can differ from one measurement to another.

Peer names do not enter the comparison result. A two-peer range still reveals the pair's lowest and highest values, so it should not be read as complete value anonymity.

VERDICT LOGIC

Vicin evaluates the meaning of the measurement, not just its size.

The selected value is compared with the peer average after the row's direction rule is applied.

Small differences can remain a tie

Vicin uses a 2% comparison band around the peer average. A value inside that band receives Tie instead of an outperforming or underperforming label. The band is a product rule, not a significance test.

MOST CURRENT ROWS

Higher values can be stronger

Traffic, clicks, conversions, lead actions, and reached-page counts use Outperforming, Underperforming, or Tie after comparison with the peer average.

LOWER-IS-BETTER ROWS

Lower values can be stronger

Average position, Cost per ad click, and Paid cost per lead action reverse the ordinary direction because a lower value represents stronger measured performance.

YEAR-OVER-YEAR ROWS

Change uses different words

Year-over-year rows use Stronger, Softer, or Tie so a change comparison is not described as a current-period performance level.

LEARN FROM STRONG LOCATIONS

A strong location can be as useful to investigate as a weak one.

One location can underperform on traffic while outperforming on conversions or cost efficiency. The row-by-row view keeps those different results visible.

An outperforming result can point to an internal pattern worth reviewing. It does not prove which campaign, page, team, market condition, or operating choice caused the difference.

The goal isn't to create a leaderboard. It's to decide where to look next.

FROM LOCATION TO DECISION

Match. Compare. Investigate.

Location Comparison narrows a large portfolio review into a smaller set of evidence-backed questions.

  1. MATCH

    Build the eligible peer group

Start with the selected location. Vicin finds active locations in the same customer account, city, state, and primary business category.

  2. COMPARE

    Read each eligible row

Review the selected value, peer average, median or range, reporting count, and verdict. Keep unavailable rows separate from measured gaps.

  3. INVESTIGATE

Open the evidence behind the gap

The result identifies the gap. It does not claim why the difference exists. Continue into the relevant performance, trend, or cost record before deciding what to change.

WHY VICIN

A qualified benchmark carries more meaning than a loose location ranking.

Vicin keeps cohort logic, row eligibility, benchmark context, and measurement limits in the same comparison.

Qualify before calculating
Account, activity, city, state, category, and minimum peer rules narrow the comparison before any verdict appears.
Check every row on its own evidence
A source gap on one measurement does not erase a different measurement that still has enough selected and peer values.
Interpret the measurement correctly
Direction rules prevent a lower cost or stronger average position from receiving the wrong verdict.
Keep the basis visible
The peer count, median or range, unavailable reason, and period basis remain beside the selected value.

WHO USES LOCATION COMPARISON

Built for people responsible for several local business locations.

The feature supports portfolio reviews where one customer account contains enough locally comparable locations.

Agencies

Review eligible locations within one client account under the same qualification rules before discussing performance differences and next questions.

Freelance marketers

Bring one customer's location evidence into a focused review without turning missing data into a poor result.

FAQ

Questions about Location Comparison

The answers below follow the current cohort, row, benchmark, and verdict rules.

What does Location Comparison do?

It compares one selected location with qualified internal peers on 20 supported measurements. Each eligible row includes the selected value, peer average, supporting peer context, reporting count, and comparison result.

Which locations qualify as peers?

Peers must be active, managed by the same customer, located in the same city and state, and assigned the same Google Business Profile primary category as the selected location.

How many locations does the comparison need?

The selected location needs at least two eligible peers, so the smallest eligible cohort contains three locations total.

Does every eligible peer need a value for every row?

No. The selected location and at least two eligible peers need usable values for a row. Other eligible peers can lack that value without blocking the row.

What happens when a row cannot be compared?

The row remains visible. Vicin preserves the selected location's value when available and reports why the peer comparison could not run. Missing evidence does not become zero.

When does Vicin show a median or range?

A row with at least three reporting peers shows the peer median. A row with exactly two reporting peers shows the peer range instead.

What does Tie mean?

Tie means the selected value falls inside the 2% comparison band around the peer average. The band prevents a small difference from receiving a directional verdict; it does not prove the values are equal.

Does a larger value always outperform?

No. Average position, Cost per ad click, and Paid cost per lead action use lower-is-better logic. Other supported current-period rows use higher-is-better logic.

Which period does each row use?

Current Acquisition, Search visibility, Paid acquisition, and Lead capture rows use the selected period. Year-over-year rows use the last completed month and the same month one year earlier.

Why can shared website data be excluded?

Several locations can share one website measurement source. Vicin excludes those shared website measurements from location comparison because the values do not represent independent location performance.

Are peer location names shown?

No. Peer names do not enter the comparison result. The output shows aggregate peer context and a reporting count. A two-peer range exposes the pair's boundary values even though it does not name the locations.

Does the result explain why a location differs?

No. Location Comparison establishes a measured difference within the qualified peer group. Performance, Trends, and Where my money goes can support the next investigation, but the comparison does not prove cause.

Find the location difference worth investigating.

Compare one location with qualified internal peers, see the evidence behind each row, and carry the right question into the next review.
